A Christmas Wish

All I want for Christmas is to help some animals have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday season.  As such, I am asking that my followers and friends do something small for me.  I have donated a quilt to All Things Pawssible in Charlottesville, Virginia to be raffled off to raise money for the local shelters here in town.  $5.00 buys you three tickets and a chance to win this gorgeous quilt:

More then anything, it would give many animals the chance at getting a Christmas stocking or even their forever home which they all deserve.  Everyone that contacts me with their $5.00 donation will get their pick at two fat quarters from my stash of fabric.  Who can beat that?  A chance at a free quilt AND free fabric?

My Christmas wish is for puppies, like Willie pictured above, to find their forever home and have a very happy life.  Please consider helping me with this.  Let's see how much money we can raise by Sunday! (12/15/13)

You can call All Things Pawssible and make a donation over the phone (434-972-7297) or email me at ktquiltsandart@gmail.com!  If you do donate, please let me know asap so I can get your fabric to you!

Thankful

Have you ever taken a moment to stop and "smell the roses," as some would say?  As I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amount of orders coming in for Christmas gifts, I had to sit myself down and take a moment to breathe.  Why am I getting stressed out over getting orders in?  I should be thankful for the opportunity to work with new clients and share my love of quilting with them.

So, today, I am thankful for the chance to work with my new clients, to make them a piece of art that they can have for a lifetime and love.  How wonderful is that?

Finding Time to Make Everything

Do you ever feel like this when you are trying to get several projects finished?  Everything seems to pile up at once and you can barely find time to finish even one project?  Where do you find the strength (and time) to get everything accomplished?

We find ourselves struggling with these questions on a daily basis.  The problem with being in such a demanding field is finding a balance between not having enough work and taking on too many projects.  Where do you draw that line?  I have a hard time telling a prospective client that I just cannot handle any more work right now, because I know I am letting them down, but then again, I am making it much better for the clients I already have because their quilts will have all of the attention and love that they need to be finished not only on time, but with all of my attention.

I hope, as our business continues to grow, that I will be able to distinguish between the two and find a happy medium.  I love what I do and hopefully everyone around us will know that and continue to make our business a success.

Inspiration

As I was sitting at work the other day, I was thinking about quilts, and colors, patterns, etc. and where I could find some inspiration.  Well, I ended up going home and taking my two puppies to the dog park.  Sitting there, I just happened to look to my left and saw the beautiful tree pictured above and I realized that I was sitting in the world of inspiration. Everywhere I go there is inspiration to be found.  I am lucky enough to live in Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains and the colors, especially in the fall, are just stunning.

My point of today's post is this: if you are ever at a loss or are just in need of some inspiration, take a walk outside.  It doesn't matter where you live, what season it is, or what time of day.  Inspiration surrounds us everywhere we go.  Sometimes we forget and need a small reminder that we live in a beautiful world.  Today, this beautiful yellow tree reminded me of that.

J-n-K Designs: A Family Affair

Hello!

We wanted to start out our new blog by letting you know who we are!  We are a mother-daughter team who finally decided that it is never too late to start doing what you love, and for us that just happens to be quilting/sewing!

J-n-K Designs came to life in 2009 and just continues to grow on a daily basis.  We work out of Juli's (mom) home with hopes of one day getting a true studio space somewhere in the beautiful state of Virginia.  We do everything related to quilting from the design of the quilt, picking out fabric, cutting, piecing, and finally, long-arm quilting each and every quilt we make.  Don't forget the binding, because we do that too! :)

We take great pride in everything we make. Some days we spend creating ideas and searching for fabrics, while other days are completely spent sewing.  Either way, you will always find us with a quilt or fabric in mind.

Juli works from home and takes care of the cats, which doesn't leave her much time for quilting or sewing, but she somehow takes charge and makes some of the prettiest quilts I have ever seen.  She loves muted colors, but can step out of her shell and make some amazing color choices.  She is very strict on herself and makes sure every part of the quilt is perfect, or she will re-do it.

Katie, on the other hand, loves playing with any and all colors and doesn't mind if there is one spot off on a quilt, because that means there will never be another quilt just like it.

The joy of working as a mother-daughter team cannot even be put into words.  I am the luckiest girl in the world to get to spend so much time with my mom doing something we both love.  We hope you continue to check in on our work and all of our websites listed below.
